For the Moxy Hotel, AK Lichtdesign developed a contemporary lighting concept for the outdoor areas with the goal of creating a modern and inviting atmosphere. The lighting design emphasizes the hotel’s urban character and combines aesthetic impact with clear functional requirements.

In close coordination with Schmidt Architekten, a holistic concept was created that precisely links architecture, outdoor space, and light. The lighting solution highlights pathways, lounge areas, and architectural elements, and ensures orientation, safety, and a distinctive visual identity for the hotel both during the day and in the evening hours.

Challenge

The challenge was to combine clear and functional outdoor lighting with an independent design statement. Light was intended to ensure orientation and safety while also making the hotel’s urban, vibrant character visible to the outside.

Solution

The lighting design is based on a clear architectural approach and precise coordination among all parties involved.

  1. Consulting and pre-concept lighting design
Development of an overarching lighting concept to define atmosphere, impact, and outdoor spatial structure.

  2. Architecture- and pathway-related lighting guidance
Targeted illumination of pathways, access points, and lounge zones for clear orientation and safe use.

  3. Design accentuation
Emphasis of architectural elements to strengthen the hotel’s visual identity.

  4. Detailed design planning and lighting scene design
Technically precise planning and coordinated lighting scenes for different times of day and usage situations.

The result is a clear yet atmospheric outdoor space design that strengthens the character of the Moxy Hotel and welcomes visitors already in the exterior area.
